Detail of the Last Judgment Tympanum (1107-25) over the west door. At the top, above and behind Christ in Majesty, is the cross of Christ and angels bearing the instruments of the Passion. The inscription at the top of the cross says "Jesus, King of the Jews," reflecting the plaque mentioned in the New Testament. On the cross-arm, LANCEA refers to the spear held by the angel, with which Christ's side was pierced, and CLAVI reflects the nails used to crucify him. The inscription below is part of a longer phrase: "This sign of the cross will be in the heavens."
